Cycling holidays on the Costa del Sol

We were pleased to see Marbella getting behind the cycling trend by implementing a new scheme in the city with the company OFO, who are pioneering the station-free bike sharing. With OFO, you can pick up a bike anywhere and leave it where you need to go. There is an app that helps you find your nearest bike, then you have to scan it and use the app to unlock it. You then ride it wherever you need and then park it and lock it to end the trip. It is a really easy and cheap way to hire a bike, costing just 50 cents for half an hour. Find out more about the concept and download the app here

They are now running a pilot in Marbella with 200 bikes and an introductory price of 35 cents per half an hour and 5€ for the whole day and after the first phase they hope to expand it to include more bikes too!

This is not the only way to enjoy cycling in Marbella or the Costa del Sol. There are many bike hire companies who can rent out bikes for half days, full days, or your whole holiday, so you can really explore the stunning scenery that this area has to offer. There are also tours around the main towns on the Costa del Sol by bike, which can give you a different perspective of these beautiful places and get you moving!

Where to cycle on the Costa del Sol?

One of the easiest and most scenic ways to cycle along the Costa del Sol is to head down to the sea and ride along the seafront promenade. There are long stretches of “paseo” all along the […]

Why visit Casares in 2018

Casares is a stunning white village in the hills inland from the Costa del Sol. It is a wonderful place to visit and a village that we really love, here are five reasons why you should be planning your next holiday to Casares.

It is charming and pretty with an old fashioned Spanish vibe – It is just a short car ride from the bustling town of Estepona, but arriving in Casares is like stepping back into time. The beautiful village is built around and on a rocky outcrop, with the houses clinging onto the rock and steep paths winding up the hill. People looking for the “real Spain” but within easy reach of the coast’s facilities will love it here.
The countryside is gorgeous and it is ideal for hiking and birdwatching – Nature lovers will be delighted by the unspoilt countryside all around Casares. The village sits in the Sierra Bermeja natural park with volcanic mountains (now extinct), unique flora and fauna and native pine forests which are not found anywhere else in the world. The area is protected and perfect for hiking and spotting amazing birds of prey, which nest in this natural paradise. It has varied countryside with rocky outcrops, rolling plains, valleys and rivers, so it is a great base for a walking holiday.
There are lots of sites to visit – Within the village itself you can visit ruins of an impressive Medieval castle perched high on the rock, a lovely church and chapel, the birthplace of the father of Andalusian nationalism Blas Infante and the cultural centre which has been named after Casares’ famous son. In the surrounding countryside you can visit Roman baths and see an […]

Why should you book your holidays in January

The post Christmas blues and January’s cold, wet weather, leads people to book sunshine holidays in their hoards. The first Saturday on the New Year is dubbed Sunshine Saturday in the UK, and it is the busiest booking day of the whole year for travel agents and airlines! So the question is have you booked yet?

Don’t worry if you haven’t, there’s still plenty of time, but we do recommend getting ahead of the curve to get the best deals and ensure availability. Some people like to wait to see the last minute deals, and of course that’s fine too, but early bookings are important if you fit into any of these categories.

You have kids and need to travel in the school holidays – Not surprisingly, these are the most popular times to travel and availability is limited, so getting in ahead of the rest is the best idea.
If you have a particular destination in mind, which has limited accommodation – If you love a particular village which doesn’t have many holiday rentals or hotels, then booking early will make sure you’re not disappointed.
If you have fallen in love with a particular villa or apartment and want to return – We have many guests that return to the same holiday rental time and time again, because it is perfect for them. If that’s your case, then don’t wait to book, especially in peak times, as you may be disappointed.
If you’re travelling in a group – Group holidays are getting increasingly popular, but take some organisation to make sure that everyone is free, so fixing your dates and booking up that perfect villa in January makes sense.
If you’re dreaming of a […]

Happy Holidays!

On behalf of all of our team, we wish you a very Happy Holidays, and health and happiness in 2018! We hope you have a wonderful time, wherever you are spending the holidays, and that you can be with friends, family and loved ones.

At this special time of year we always like to give back to those less fortunate than ourselves, so we’re helping the homeless on the Costa del Sol. We collaborate with a local homeless charity and contribute savoury and sweet pies to their Christmas meal and presents so that everyone can get a little something this year. All our generous staff are making donations to this cause, and the company is doubling what they raise so we can help as many people as possible.

At the office, we are collecting warm coats, blankets, scarves and rucksacks, to give to the homeless. So if you have anything in the house which you don’t use anymore, please drop them in to the office and we’ll make sure they get to people in need. Where to find us

Watch Davis Cup Tennis in Marbella

Marbella has been chosen to host the Davis Cup World Group matches between Great Britain and Spain from the 2nd to the 4th of February 2018. This means that some of the UK and Spain’s best players will be competing on the courts at the Puente Romano tennis club over three days. There will be singles and doubles games over five “rubbers”, with the winning team needing to win three or more of the five games.

This is the first time since 2013 that Spain has hosted a Davis Cup tie and the matchup between Great Britain and Spain hasn’t been seen since the 1980s. The UK has been seeded third in the World Group, but Spain are fearsome opponents, having won the title four times. Spain boasts an excellent pool of quality players to choose from, including world number one Rafael Nadal. With Andy Murray suffering a hip injury at Wimbledon, it remains to be seen whether he will be fit to play in the team.  However, this year both teams got knocked out in the quarter finals, so they have a point to prove.

Marbella was competing against other destinations for this great sporting event, but the great clay court at the Puente Romano, the lovely climate in the south of Spain and good transport links made it the winning choice. It will be very popular with holiday makers too for a bit of winter sun, golf, great restaurants and of course some great holiday rentals!

Davis Cup ties are always very popular with spectators, so there have been recommendations to extend the Puente Romano grandstands to accommodate around 9,000 fans. British Tennis team members will get a priority ticket sale for their allocation and […]

Try an alternative New Year’s Eve on the Costa del Sol

Where has this year gone? Christmas is nearly here and New Year’s Eve is hot on its heels. What are your plans for the most important party night of the year?

If you’re still deciding and are getting fed up with the crowds, hype and silly prices, then how about getting away from the New Year madness to celebrate in Spain?

We love New Year’s Eve on the Costa del Sol, as there’s something for everyone, whether you want a chilled out winter getaway or want to hit the dance floor. Here are four great ways to spend it, under our sunny skies.

Have a house party with a difference

There are many house parties going on over New Year, but what about getting your mates together in a luxury holiday home for a winter getaway? If you have a group of friends clubbing together off peak, you could afford an amazing luxury villa including bar area, games room, gym, tennis courts and even heated swimming pool. Now that’s what I call bringing in the New Year in style!

This five bedroom villa in Mijas Costa just 600 meters from the beach has amazing facilities including a private pool and hot tub, outdoor bar area, games room, games consoles and two kitchens! You could spend Christmas and New Year here for just 60€ per person, per night.

Try an active New Year Break

If all the New Year fuss leaves you cold, take advantage of the sunshine and warm winters here on the Costa del Sol to have an active break. Imagine hiking up La Concha mountain on New Year’s Eve and rewarding yourself with a delicious meal in the evening to welcome 2018. How about playing golf on New Year […]

Travelling to the Costa del Sol after Monarch

It’s been a tricky few months for the airline industry with Ryanair’s cancellations, Norwegian cutting routes and Monarch going bust and some of our visitors who are considering travelling over here to sunny Spain are expressing concern about how they can get here now that Monarch is no longer around.

Please don’t worry, there are so many airlines flying into Malaga airport, with regular flights and excellent value tickets and so your sunshine holiday is still as easy to reach! In fact there are predictions that airline seats will actually increase this winter compared to last year, despite airline closures.

According to CAPA Centre for Aviation “Growth in airline seats from Europe will accelerate to 7.2% in winter 2017/2018, versus 5.7% last winter” which represents the highest winter growth for 10 years. They expect that capacity from Monarch and Airberlin will be reallocated to other providers who are vying for the business.

Malaga in particular is still a very important hub and has seen increasing passenger numbers throughout the year. Malaga airport offers flights to over 100 destinations in 25 countries! It is served by a large number of airlines which connect travellers in the UK, Northern Ireland, Europe and Scandinavia to the amazing destinations on the Costa del Sol with regular low-cost flights. The airlines flying direct from the UK include British Airways, EasyJet, TUI, Ryanair, Vueling, Flybe, Norwegian and Jet2. BA is one of the airlines negotiating to take over Monarch’s routes, and we expect news of this soon.

From outside the UK there are flights with KLM, TAP Air Portugal, Smart Wings, Air France, Aer Lingus, Iberia, eurowings, Lufthansa and many more. Routes have been increasing over the last few years, with more flights going […]

Plan your festive getaway

November is here and the countdown is well and truly on to the festive season. Where will you be spending the holidays this year? If you’re getting family together from around the country, why not bring them all over to Spain’s sunshine coast to celebrate?

The Costa del Sol has great weather all year round with temperatures rarely dropping below 10°C and regularly hitting highs of 16°C, you can still enjoy 6 hours of sunshine each day. As it only rains an average of 5 days in December, you should have lots of bright sunny days, but with cool evenings which make you feel festive.

Bringing the whole family, or a group of friends, together in a villa on the Costa del Sol is a great way to add excitement and novelty to the holidays. It also takes away from any one person having to shoulder all the responsibility for cooking or cleaning for example. By celebrating on neutral territory any jobs can be shared around and there’s no unnecessary stress on you.

There are spectacular villas on the Costa del Sol available for Christmas rentals at a fraction of the cost of the summer and we can arrange cleaning as well, so you can just relax. You won’t believe how far your budget will go when you split a large villa between a group and they offer so much space and facilities too.

Take this beautiful luxury 6 bed villa in Elviria for example. It would be just 61€ per person per night based on 12 people sharing in December. For that you have so many lovely features such as a gym, private pool, formal living room with a grand piano, perfect for singing carols, a comfortable […]

The most photogenic spots on the Costa del Sol

If you love taking photos and are looking for some real lens candy, then consider a visit to the Costa del Sol. The area has been popular with artists for many years, due to the wonderful quality of light and clear, sunny skies. From September to December the clarity is at its best and there are less tourists to get in the way, so now is a great time to come on holiday and get snapping.

There are Kodak moments everywhere you look on the Costa del Sol, but here are some of our favourite things to capture.

La Concha – This imposing mountain sits behind Marbella and its shape and the deep grooves in the sides make for an amazing backdrop. At certain times of day, it really glows and there are many wonderful shots to be taken from the seafront promenade or from the Old Town, where you can compose shots to include charming church spires and white washed buildings with La Concha in the background.
The Med – The long sandy beaches and sparkling sea is synonymous with the Costa del Sol and there are some beautiful images to be captured, from amazing sunsets over the water, to early morning calm, or even dolphins playing in the waves. Walk along the beach or seafront promenade, or take out a boat to look for dolphins and whales around the Straits of Gibraltar for a different perspective. On clear days, you can see the African coast and the Atlas Mountains and the rock of Gibraltar is a very striking sight – these all make for wonderful images that you will treasure.
Casares – There are many white villages in the countryside close to the […]

The best Autumnal activities on the Costa del Sol

We love autumn on the Costa del Sol, the weather is still warm – but not too hot, there’s plenty to do, but the crowds have gone and so you can park, get a table in a great restaurant and enjoy the area to the full without the queues!

Get active

October to December are the perfect months to get active, with cooler temperatures but plenty of sunshine. If you’re sporty, you could play a round of golf at one of the 70 golf courses on the Costa del Sol, go and play tennis at the club of Wimbledon legend Manolo Santana, jog along the seafront promenade each day, or take place in a race. Find out more about Golf on the Costa del Sol here.

Alternatively, why not take to your bike, and explore on two wheels? The Costa del Sol is a great place for cycling, with miles of seafront promenades to enjoy, plus lots of great routes for mountain biking.

Another great option is to hike some of the beautiful routes into the countryside, which is so close to the hustle and bustle of the coast. There are wonderful walks behind Mijas Pueblo, around Casares, Estepona, Ronda and Istan to explore, with easy to follow paths and Town Hall organised guided walks too. If you are staying in Marbella, you must go to the Refugio de Juanar, just up from the La Cañada shopping centre. The countryside is beautiful, and you can walk for miles along marked trails, or just wander amongst the trees and find a perfect picnic spot. From there you can do the ultimate challenge, which is to climb up the iconic La Concha mountain, which dominates the Marbella skyline. This […]
