The Costa del Sol – the perfect spring holiday destination

Buy Cialis Soft online Spring is officially here, with the clocks going back to give us longer evenings and the weather treating us to lots of spring sunshine, it is a great time to visit the Costa del Sol.

If you ask the locals, they will tell you that spring is one of their favourite times of year, when the warmth of the sun reappears, the beach restaurants and clubs open their doors once more and excitement is in the air for the beginning of the new season. There’s a great atmosphere, everyone is enjoying the warmer weather and more events and activities are popping up all along the Costa del Sol.

As we mentioned last month, Easter is just around the corner and this means a week of processions, pomp and ceremony and bank holidays a plenty, which makes getting away even easier. If you haven’t booked an Easter break yet, there is still some last minute availability, but things are booking up fast, so give us a call to find out what we have left in your chosen area.

However, spring is a lot more than just visiting at Easter. If you aren’t restricted by the school holidays, we’d recommend coming at the end of April and the beginning of May, when the temperatures are rising, but flights are still relatively cheap and the peak period of rentals hasn’t yet begun. This is a brilliant time to visit and your money goes a lot further!

Here are three great holiday rental properties in three different areas, which are perfect for a spring getaway.

3 bedroom apartment Marbella Town – This luxury apartment is situated in the prestigious complex of Jardines de Principe in Marbella, within walking distance of the beach and […]

Finding Parking on the Costa del Sol in Summer

Summer is definitely hotting up here on the Costa del Sol and tourists are pouring in from all over the world to enjoy our famous beaches, lifestyle and food. We love summer here, but one thing which causes us and our guests issues in the peak summer months is parking, so we wanted to give you some advice on how to deal with traffic and parking during the busiest times of year.

Try to find accommodation with parking – If you’re planning to hire a car, or will be driving down, the best thing is to book accommodation with parking so you don’t have to worry. Also look for accommodation which has something within walking distance, such as a local shop, bar, or café, just to give the designated driver a break and to limit the need to hunt for parking.
Look out for short stay blue zones – If you’re popping into town for a short time, then the blue marked bays are a good option. These entitle you to up to 2 hours of parking and are very inexpensive and because they aren’t available all day they tend to be easier to find than free or longer stay parking. Also, they are usually free over lunch (2-4pm) and after 9pm. Over the weekends there’s only a charge in the mornings on Saturday from 9-2 and after that and on Sundays it’s free. Check the nearest meter to the bay for the hours and charges.
Enjoy the walk – One of the nicest things to do during the summer on the Costa del Sol is to stroll along the promenade and with that in mind, you can park further out from the centre to minimise stress […]

Get in the mood for love with a romantic getaway

There’s no escaping Valentine’s Day, with cards, balloons, flowers and gifts starting to fill the shelves as soon as Christmas is out of the way. But if you haven’t decided what to do yet and want to avoid the clichés or do something very special, then why not whisk the one you love away from it all for some winter sun in Spain. This year 14th February falls on a Sunday, so it’s a great opportunity to go for a short break, from Friday to Monday. We have a range of holiday rentals available for short breaks, so please just ask to see the collection.

The Costa del Sol is a great place to spend Valentine’s Day, as it’s not so commercial or over the top as the UK, yet still feels very special. Many of the International restaurants put on special events for the night and you can see a list of great options for Valentine’s on the Costa del Sol on My Destination Marbella.

Alternatively you can create your own romantic moments. To help you create something really special, here are a few ideas (don’t worry, we won’t tell her you didn’t think of it yourself) –

Picnic on the Beach – Sitting on the beach with a bottle of champagne or Spanish cava, ham, cheese, strawberries and chocolates with the sand between your toes is a very special experience and even better when it’s in February and so cold at home. This is a low cost, but very romantic experience, we’d suggest you go down there in the early evening and watch the sun go down.
Take the cable car up to the top of Mount Calamorro in Benalmadena and enjoy the 15 minute ride […]

Winter Sun and Skiing – The Perfect Combination!

The Costa del Sol is in the enviable position of having glorious weather and beaches which can be enjoyed all year round and the extra bonus for the winter visitor of being able to ski just 2 hours away in the Sierra Nevada. Starting the day on the beach and hitting the slopes in the afternoon is a surreal experience, but a wonderful one and something we’d definitely recommend. It’s an easy day trip, or you can stay overnight if you want a more leisurely time in the snow. The ski season runs from 1st December to 1st May so there’s plenty of time to come and try it for yourself.

It was a tough start to the season for all ski resorts in Europe and Sierra Nevada suffers more than most due to its southern location. However, as temperatures dropped towards Christmas they were able to get the snow cannons out and open more runs on the lower slopes and they received a brilliant gift for the special day of the Three Kings with heavy snows falling, low temperatures and more snow forecast this weekend. January tends to be a month with more rain on the coast which means snow up in the mountains, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed for much more snow to come. To check out the latest ski conditions and look at the web cams visit http://sierranevada.es/en/

The best time for skiing in the Sierra Nevada tends to be February and March when the January snows form a good base for skiing and winds tend to be lower. Plus as it’s the low season for the Costa del Sol, the flights and holiday rentals are much cheaper than in the summer, […]

Visiting the Costa del Sol for Christmas

It feels like summer only just finished on the Costa del Sol, but now that Halloween is over and the clocks have gone back, we can’t deny that Christmas is nearly upon us.

If the dark, cold weather is getting you down and the endless Christmas songs and ads are already driving you crazy, why not consider a different kind of Christmas this year in the winter sun destination of the Costa del Sol?

Those who can feel bah-humbug about Christmas in the UK, will find a Spanish Christmas refreshing and relaxing. There’s much less emphasis on the commercial side of Christmas, decorations don’t go up until the beginning of December and the events are quite low-key and charity focussed as opposed to a huge corporate marketing machine.

You can choose to indulge in Christmas as much or as little as you wish. Want to feel festive? Head into Marbella’s Old Town or into Malaga’s shopping district to see the lights and sample some chestnuts and vino caliente (mulled wine), visit one of the Christmas markets or go and hear carols at one of the stunning churches. There’s a new synthetic ice rink in San Pedro Boulevard which I am sure will be really popular during Christmas and kids can visit Santa in his grotto either in La Cañada shopping centre, or in Marbella’s Plaza Alameda. A really nice idea is to explore the chapels and squares in Marbella’s Old Town by following the routes to see the traditional “Belen” or nativity scenes, which range from the simple to the incredibly complex and ornate. Check out this page for Christmas activities in Marbella in English.

However, if you want to escape and disconnect from all the festivities, no […]

We love Malaga – why it should be on your list of places to visit!

If you’re planning a Christmas getaway or drawing up a 2016 travel wish list, don’t overlook the cosmopolitan, cultural hotspot of Malaga on the Costa del Sol. Often thought as simply an airport linking Brits with Andalucia’s best loved beach destinations, Malaga is an amazing destination in its own right with some of the best shopping, nightlife and museums you can find anywhere.

The Independent recently wrote a great article about Malaga’s success story and its incredible transformation which shone a light onto this often overlooked city and the response has been great. Describing Malaga as “hot, hip and happening” and “one of this year’s top-rated city break destinations” it praises the city for the well-placed investment which has changed it into a cultural hub with 30 museums which was nominated as a worthy candidate for the 2016 European Capital of Culture.

We couldn’t agree more! Malaga really has the X-Factor, with very pretty streets and impressive buildings which buzzes with life day and night. The newly developed port area has done wonders for the city, as it’s encouraged people to move around from the fantastic Muelle 1 area with its great shopping and chic bars and restaurants right on the marina, up to the Old Town with the iconic cathedral, striking fort and Roman ruins. Wherever you go, you will be spoilt for choice with bars, coffee shops and restaurants. The best time for dining is after 9pm, but don’t leave it too late as it’s getting such a great reputation as a gastronomic destination that the best restaurants fill up fast.

Just make sure you leave enough time to visit the amazing museums and galleries, as this has really converted the city into a cultural […]

Walking Holidays on the Costa del Sol

Did you know that the Costa del Sol is a great place to walk? It’s a big part of the culture to “pasear” or stroll down your local seaside promenade, particularly on a Sunday before or after lunch. Estepona, Marbella and Fuengirola are great places to get involved in this lovely tradition and there are loads of great options if you love walking.

There are two great walking events taking place in Marbella in October where you can walk as a group, meet new people and have a great time. The first is the Neon Night Marbella a charity walk taking place on October 3rd, walking from the Hard Rock Café in Puerto Banus at 9pm and following an easy 3km walk, dressed in neon kits. It’s a fun, sociable, fundraising walk and suitable for all ages and abilities. Tickets to take part are 10€ and all funds raised will be donated to children’s charities.

The second walking event is Marbella 4Days Walking from 8-11 October. This is a great challenge which people travel from all over Europe to undertake. It costs just 40€ to take part in all 4 days or 12.50€ if you want to just do one or two days. The challenge is to walk routes of 20 or 30 km per day around Marbella for 4 days, a real achievement, a great way to see Marbella and also meet likeminded people and enjoy fun activities. Families and kids can also take part in two, shorter 6km routes on 10th and 11th October, which is a great way for all the family to get involved in walking.

If these events don’t fit with your schedule, then we can recommend the hiking in the countryside […]

It seems like after a brief glimpse of summer the weather in the UK has got bad again with temperatures in July dipping to as low as 4°C at night in some places! At that same time here on the Costa del Sol we have been experiencing record temperatures and several heat waves have sent us rushing to the beach to cool down and enjoy the summer madness.

Long range weather forecasts predict that in August the temperatures will drop slightly to make for spectacular weather in the mid-20s to early 30s, which is just perfect for a summer holiday!

Gourmet Costa del Sol

Marbella hosted the presentation of the Michelin Guide 2015 in November 2014. The event was a great way of positioning Marbella as a top destination for food tourism, something which was often overlooked. Food lovers have always enjoyed the traditional Spanish tapas, delicious paella and grilled and fried fish dishes, but very little has been made of the fine dining restaurants which are pushing the boundaries for Spanish cuisine following in the steps of El Bulli.

Marbella and the Costa del Sol has many fine restaurants which represents cuisines from all over the world and TripAdvisor is a great place to start if you want to find a restaurant which comes highly recommended. However, there are also amazing Michelin star restaurants and those with their sights set on the stars!

Dani Garcia Restaurante at the Puente Romano promises to bring “an innovative gastronomic experience, where the forefront of cooking techniques are applied to traditional Andalusian recipes” . The bijou Skina in Marbella’s Old Town boasts one Michelin star and a sumptuous taster menu. El Lago on Greenlife Golf in Elviria is a wonderful option if you don’t want to travel into Marbella to enjoy the finest cuisine and we can highly recommend their taster menu with wine pairing.

The key to fully appreciating the fine food on offer on the Costa del Sol is to do your research, book in advance and try not to fall into the trap of the highly tourist orientated eateries, which tend to offer the worst food at the highest prices. If in doubt try a busy beach restaurant, they will rarely let you down for Spanish classics, but if you want something more special make sure you look around before you get here!

Great time for Brits to rent in Marbella, as pound hits 2-year high

Excellent news if you’re a Brit planning to rent a property in Marbella this year! It’s now cheaper to do so than any time in the past 2 years, because the pound has hit a record high against the euro. To be specific, sterling recently touched its strongest versus the common currency since August 21st 2012, at 1.2699.

What this means when you rent a Marbella property is that you’ll receive a far higher euro total. For example, were you to exchange £1,250 into euros for your break in Marbella, you’d now receive +€170 more than if you’d done so 18 months ago, in March 2013, when the pound was at just 1.1371.

So, with an extra +€170 at no extra cost, you could extend your holiday in Marbella, splash out at a Spanish restaurant – whatever takes your fancy!

Sterling has shot up against the euro, because the UK economy is doing so well next to the Eurozone. For example, the UK economy grew +0.8% between April and June, while Germany, France and Italy all stagnated. Moreover, if the UK continues to outpace the rest of Europe, sterling may even rise higher, further cutting the cost of renting in Marbella.

With all this in mind, 2014 is the ideal time to rent in a property in Marbella, as the strong pound brings down the cost of doing so!
