5 reasons you’ll love a holiday on the Costa del Sol this year

As February is the month of love, we thought we’d show our love for the Costa del Sol and pick just 5 reasons why you should come here for a holiday this year.

Enjoy amazing live music – Starlite Marbella have announced that both Elton John and Andrea Bocelli will be performing at this year’s month long celebration of music, with many more being announced over the coming months. We can’t wait to see Elton headline the concert on the 20th of July, running through his most loved hits and some new ones from his 33rd studio album. Why not come along and combine a great holiday with this outstanding concert?
Visit the 5* destination of Marbella – Last month the Marbella Town Hall were at one of the leading tourism fairs, confirming their place amongst the world’s best tourist destinations due to their unbeatable combination of gastronomy, sports, beaches, natural beauty, culture, leisure and shopping. Last year was an incredible year, with an average hotel occupancy of 93% in August, and it looks like 2017 is going to be another great one. Marbella has so much to offer and is a stunning town to visit all year round. If you want to come in summer, make sure you book early to avoid disappointment; it’s going to be busy!
Keep the whole family entertained – There are so many great activities for the kids to enjoy, from water parks and theme parks, to zoos and playgrounds, to indoor play centres, chocolate factories and sports camps. It’s great in the summer, or off peak – there’s always plenty to do.
Get Active – The Costa del Sol offers much more than just a beach holiday, […]

Fuengirola Events 2017

As we said in our last post about holidaying around Malaga, Fuengirola is an excellent holiday destination due to the amazing beaches, restaurants, shopping, eating out and activities for all the family. What we didn’t mention, was the great events programme that this vibrant town runs each year. There’s almost always something going on, but here are a few highlights that you should put into your diary, which are a great reason for a trip.

The first one of the year is the Feria Internacional de los Pueblos, which is being held from the 27th of April to the 1st of May in 2017. This is a celebration of the huge range of nationalities which call Fuengirola home, and showcases their music, dance, culture and most importantly their food! You can wander around the “casetas” or little houses which each represent a different place, listen to their music and try some of their most delicious and emblematic dishes. Make sure you come hungry though, last year there were more than 30 places represented including Italy, France, Argentina, the UK, Egypt, Greece, Venezuela, Senegal and India.  There are also parades, performances and a brilliant atmosphere. Stalls open from 1pm each day and close at 4am and it’s always an amazing party.

The next date for your diary is the Fiesta de San Juan on the 23rd of June, one of the best parties of the year here on the Costa del Sol. This festival is all about celebrating the longest night of the year by building a bonfire on the beach, eating, drinking and making merry. Check out our guide on how to celebrate San Juan Spanish style to find out more about this great festival.

Partying on the Costa del Sol for New Year’s Eve

The Costa del Sol’s legendary nightlife during the summer does slow a little over the winter months, but many places swing back into life again for the biggest party of the year – New Year’s Eve. It’s a great place to see in the New Year, with warmer temperatures, clear skies and interesting traditions to try. Plus, this year it falls on a Saturday, so why not take a long weekend break on the Costa del Sol to really start off the new year in style?!

There are hundreds of parties going on all over the coast, but here are a few highlights.

Great Gatsby New Year’s Eve party, with a glamourous 1920s theme and a full line up of entertainment, champagne, canapés and open bar in a secret location somewhere in Puerto Banus, it all sounds very exciting.

Masquerade Ball and Gala Dinner at the Kempinski Hotel Bahia Estepona – this is a very special place to spend New Year’s Eve, with amazing food, wines and plenty  of live entertainment including acrobats! The masquerade ball theme will be spectacular and there’s a kids’ party too, so the little ones will be entertained.

Bob Sinclair at Olivia Valere – The world famous DJ comes to Marbella to start 2017 in true party style on the last night of the year!

Marbella Old Town’s celebrations – If you fancy something more Spanish in style, head down to the Marbella’s beautiful Old Town, where there will be a party at 11pm in the main church square. It’s nice to have dinner on one of the beautiful restaurants and then go down to the square to see in the new year. Just make sure you bring 12 grapes, so you can take […]

Things to do with kids on the Costa del Sol in the winter

We are very lucky here on the Costa del Sol and usually have bright sunny days, even in the winter, however it’s not always beach weather, so for those of you planning an off-peak break with kids, we’ve put together a list of recommendations for you.

Visit the zoo – We love the zoo in Fuengirola on a sunny winter’s day, as it’s quieter and all the walking around is much easier when it’s not too hot. Selwo Aventura near to Estepona is amazing as well, it’s a huge zoo with animals including lions, hippos, giraffes and zebras. You can pay extra to go on their safari tour, get up close to the animals, learn about them from the zoo keeper and even feed the zebras which is a great experience. If you’re staying around Sotogrande, then Castellar Zoo is a great choice too, where you can pet and feed many of the animals!

Take a Hike – The countryside just inland of the Costa del Sol is spectacular and perfect for exploring in autumn and winter. We’d recommend the foothills of La Concha near Marbella for a lovely stroll and a place to collect pine cones to burn on your log fire, or the hills behind Mijas Pueblo have some lovely trails to follow.

Make chocolate – Mijas Pueblo also has Mayan Monkey the world’s smallest chocolate factory, where you can do fun workshops to make your own chocolate!

Visit a play centre – There are several great play centres, including the newly opened Mundo Mania in Cancelada (between Marbella and Estepona), which is the biggest in the area, and has zones for babies and toddlers, 3-12 year olds and even a teen zone, so it’s one […]

Top Tips for Visiting the Costa del Sol off-peak

They say that a dog isn’t just for Christmas, well in the same way, the Costa del Sol is not just for summer! It is a wonderful destination for an off-peak break, whether it’s to enjoy the lovely autumn or spring time, or to bask in some winter sun.

We are pleased to see that more people are visiting in September and October, with many hotels reporting 100% occupancy throughout September, and much higher occupancy rates for October too. It’s a wonderful time to visit, with glorious sunshine and lots still going on. Check out our list of autumn events on the Costa del Sol.

Hotels, restaurants and airlines are responding to the increased interest in off-peak tourism, staying open longer and offering more attractive packages for off-peak travel. Budget airline Ryanair has announced that they are increasing their flights by 43% over the winter into Malaga, so there will be even more affordable travel options for off-peak visitors.

Travelling off-peak is a great budget option, with flights and accommodation costs coming down drastically and so you can stay for longer, or choose a more luxurious option for the same amount, or simply enjoy the amazing savings.

Here are four tips for making the most of an off-peak holiday on the Costa del Sol –

Choose a location with lots of amenities which are open year round – Being more central, or within easy access of things to do is more important in the winter, when some resorts and urbanisations can become very quiet. Larger towns such as Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Marbella and Estepona are always busy throughout the year, so you can still enjoy the buzz if you’re located nearby.
Pack for cooler evenings – Day time temperatures […]

Autumn events on the Costa del Sol

We love the Costa del Sol in the Autumn, it’s a wonderful time to visit! The best thing about Autumn here is that the weather is still wonderful, with hot sunny days, but the uncomfortable nights have passed, so you can sleep soundly. The summer crowds and traffic have disappeared, it’s easy to park and there’s no need to book your restaurants, so everything is a lot more relaxed and easy. Everything on the Costa del Sol apart from the waterparks are still open, with even beach clubs staying open until the beginning of October and sometimes beyond, so you won’t miss a thing.

Last month we spoke about why golfers love to visit the Costa del Sol at this time, but there’s lots more to offer, including a wide variety of excellent events.  Although there’s no doubt that the peak season for events is the summer, more and more events are being arranged off peak, so if you time your visit right you can come and enjoy a great event, as well as the wonderful weather.

Here are 5 amazing events taking place over the autumn and recommended properties to stay in near the action.

28 September – October 2nd Marbella International Film Festival

This wonderful festival showcases a wide range of independent films, shorts and documentaries.  They are promising “an incredibly varied selection of films by some incredibly talented film makers, chosen from all around the world” and as well as the film screenings there are special events and workshops too. If you love film and want to experience everything the festival has to offer, why not take the VIP package which gives you; a VIP Pass to all film screenings, entry to the Red Carpet […]

It was recently reported that German golfers have just discovered the area and love the warmer weather, variety of courses and lifestyle and as a result their numbers has increased by 10%. The president of the Council of Tourism Costa del Sol, Elias Bendodo explained why another country of golf aficionados are falling for the area, “The Costa del Sol offers unique conditions for playing golf and has all the necessary resources for the fans of this sport looking for a place where they also play the coldest months.”

If you’re looking for a great golf location which is close to the nightlife of Marbella and Puerto Banus, we’d recommend Nueva Andalucia. Known as golf valley, as it has five great courses in just a small area, it’s only a few minutes by taxi from Puerto Banus, so has a brilliant mix of golf and options for relaxation.

This spacious three bedroom Nueva Andalucia apartment sleeps 6 and is located right in the heart of the golf valley, in a complex know aptly as Puerto Golf. It is stylish and modern, with communal gardens and pool and walking distance to shops and restaurants. It would be an excellent choice for a golf holiday.
